Missouri: Gun Owners Prevail in Veto Override Session

Overnight, Senate Bill 656 received final approval from the Missouri House of Representatives, and the veto by Governor Jay Nixon (D) was overridden.  Things also started late yesterday when the state Senate took up SB 656 during the veto override session and approved it by a 23 to 8 vote.  The House approved this measure by a 117 to 39 vote, with supporters from both sides of the aisle.

Missouri: General Assembly to Take Up Pro-Gun Legislation During Tomorrow’s Veto Override Session

As reported last week, the Missouri General Assembly will meet tomorrow and Thursday to consider bills that were vetoed by Governor Jay Nixon.  Three of the bills being considered include provisions that would improve gun laws in the Show Me State.  Tomorrow, the bills will come up in their house of origination – Senate Bill 656 in the state Senate and House Bill 2002 and House Bill 2008 in the state House of Representatives – and on Thursday the opposite chamber will consider those bills if passed.  Each of these bills addresses the issue of creating a safer school environment, by making Missouri more compliant with the NRA’s School Shield program.

Missouri: Gun Owners Prevail in Missouri Supreme Court – Amendment Stays on Primary Election Ballot on August 5

As previously reported last month, former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and his anti-gun followers made another attempt at hindering your right to keep and bear arms in Missouri.  In mid-June, a lawsuit was filed against Senate Joint Resolution 36 (Constitutional Amendment 5 on the August 5 primary election ballot) – with the plaintiff being St. Louis Police Chief Samuel Dotson III and Rebecca Morgan, a member of the Missouri chapter of a Bloomberg-funded anti-gun group.  This lawsuit sought to challenge the ballot language and had the express intention of outright killing this ballot measure.

Missouri: Governor Vetoes NRA-Backed Pro-Gun Bill

Yesterday, Governor Jay Nixon (D) vetoed a NRA supported pro-gun measure, Senate Bill 656.  Sponsored by state Senator Will Kraus (R-8) and handled in the House by state Representative Kevin Elmer (R-139), SB 656 passed overwhelmingly in both legislative chambers.  Unfortunately, Governor Jay Nixon felt the pro-gun provisions were not important or necessary and chose to veto this legislation rather than allow it to become law and increase school and public safety for law-abiding Missouri citizens.
