Washington: “Universal Background Check” Legislation Must be Defeated

Unfortunately, the rumors of more attempts at gun control in Washington have proven true. House Bill 1588, “universal background check” legislation, was introduced today by state Representative Jamie Pederson (D-43), Mike Hope (R-44) and 21 other state Representatives. This bill has been referred to the House Judiciary Committee, where Representative Jamie Pederson is the chairman and Representative Mike Hope is a key Republican on this committee.

Michigan Senate Judiciary Committee Approves Gun Owner Protection Legislation

Earlier today, the Michigan Senate Judiciary Committee voted unanimously to keep the personal information of gun permit applicants confidential and exempt from Freedom of Information Act requests.  Senate Bill 49, introduced by state Senator Thomas Casperson, passed in a 4 to 0 vote and is now eligible for a vote in the full Senate.

Kansas: Senate Committee to Hold Hearing on Right-to-Carry Reform Legislation

The Kansas Senate Committee on Federal and State Affairs will hold a hearing on Senate Bill 21 this Wednesday, January 23 at 10:30 a.m.  In addition to a number of technical changes, SB 21 would reform the state’s Right-to-Carry laws and strengthen the rights of Kansas’ law-abiding gun owners in several ways.

Michigan Legislature Introduces Gun Owner Protection Legislation

As the Michigan state Senate finishes its second week of the new legislative session, pro-gun legislators have already begun to advocate for the rights of law-abiding gun owners.  State Senator Thomas Casperson (R-38) filed a bill that would keep the personal information of permit-to-purchase applicants confidential and exempt from Freedom of Information Act requests.  This bill, Senate Bill 49, has been scheduled for a hearing on Wednesday January 23 in the Senate Judiciary Committee at 8:30 am.
