Today, Senate Bill 226, sponsored by state Senator Mike Woodard (D-22), passed unanimously in the House Rules Committee.  S 226, which would repeal a 1935 law that allowed firearm registration in Durham County, is expected to be considered on the floor of the North Carolina House of Representatives this week.

The seventh week of the Legislative Session was yet another exceptionally busy and successful week.  Four more pro-gun bills passed the legislature and are headed for the Governor’s desk.  The blue underlined bill numbers are the most current versions of the bills. You can simply click on those links to read the bills.   A new version is prepared every time a bill is amended (changed) in committee.  If, there is no blue link that means the newest amended version is not yet available.

Yesterday, a critical self-defense bill, Senate Bill 308, passed in the House Judiciary Committee.  S. 308, introduced by state Senator Sean Bennett (R-38), would remove the prohibition on a Concealed Weapon Permit (CWP) holder carrying a concealed firearm into a restaurant licensed to serve alcohol.

Yesterday, the House Judiciary Subcommittee B reported an amended version of House Bill 714.  This NRA-supported legislation, sponsored by state Representative Jacqueline Schaffer (R-105), seeks to eliminate the option of destroying lawful firearms that are in safe working condition that have been seized or otherwise recovered by law enforcement.

Earlier this week, the California Assembly Appropriations Committee voted 11 to 5 to approve a proposed statewide lead ammunition ban for all hunting, Assembly Bill 711.  AB 711 would make California the first state in the nation to prohibit the use of all lead ammunition for hunting.  This bill now goes to the state Assembly floor where it is expected to be brought up for a vote soon.  The NRA urges all hunters, recreational shooters and gun owners to actively oppose AB 711.  We strongly urge you to contact members of the state Assembly.  Please forward this alert to your family, friends, fellow sportsmen and gun owners throughout California and urge them to do the same.  Contact information for all state Assemblymen can be found here.
