As previously reported, the Senate Public Safety Committee heard Senate Bill 137 earlier on Wednesday.  It is now being held in committee pending an amendment to narrow the scope of this legislation, while also addressing problems raised by the NRA during committee testimony.

Yesterday, the Delaware Senate voted 6 – 13 (2 not voting) in opposition to House Bill 88.  However, this bill could be brought up again for consideration by the Senate on Sunday.

The General Assembly has been in recess, but will reconvene in Dover next Tuesday, June 4.  Two anti-gun measures are eligible for consideration by the House, and could be voted on as soon as next week.  Contact your state Representative and urge his or her opposition to House Bill 58 and House Bill 67!

Today, the Delaware House of Representatives could vote on House Bill 67, which seeks to create a “gun-free zone” around ALL school property – including vehicles and property owned, used, or rented by any public or private school.  This legislation will put firearm owners and concealed carry permittees at risk of arrest and felony prosecution by creating an un-navigable maze of legal technicalities and “gotcha” laws.

The Delaware House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on House Bill 88 tomorrow, and erroneous statements and reports in the media have led to the impression that the NRA has offered unqualified support for this bill. The NRA has sent a letter (which can be read here) to all Delaware legislators explaining the flaws in HB 88.  Call your state Representative and ask him or her to oppose HB 88 until all of the current issues with the proposed legislation have been corrected.
