Iowa: Right to Keep and Bear Arms Constitutional Amendment & Permitless Carry Pass Senate Subcommittee

Yesterday, a Senate Judiciary Subcommittee passed Senate Study Bill 3155 to propose an amendment to the state Constitution guaranteeing “the right of the people to acquire, keep, possess, transport, carry, transfer, and use arms” and Senate File 2106 to enact permitless carry in Iowa.  Both bills will now go to the Senate Judiciary Committee, which could take them up for consideration as early as next week.

Harry Reid Trying to Use Constitutional Amendment to Silence NRA, its Members, and Free Speech

In January 2010, the U.S. Supreme Court handed down a key decision in the case of Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission.  The decision removed unconstitutional restrictions on the ability to speak freely at election time of grassroots groups like NRA and others. But now, some are trying to reverse the decision–and while they recognize that they must amend the Constitution to do so, their amendment would gut the First Amendment rights of organized political groups as we know them.

Missouri: Right to Keep and Bear Arms Constitutional Amendment Awaits Action in House

Last week, the House General Laws Committee voted “Do Pass” on Senate Joint Resolution 36 and this measure is currently waiting to be added to the House floor calendar.  Sponsored by state Senator Kurt Shaefer (R-19) and being handled in the House by state Representative John Diehl (R-89), SJR 36 would strengthen Missouri’s current right to keep and bear arms constitutional amendment, Section 23, Article I.
