House Bill 77, state Representative Miguel Garcia’s sweeping gun control bill to regulate all private gun transfers, establish a state registry of lawful firearms owners and tax legal gun purchasers will be heard by the House Judiciary Committee on Monday, January 28, at 1:30 pm or upon adjournment of the House in Room 309 of the State Capitol in Santa Fe.
Earlier today, the Michigan Senate Judiciary Committee voted unanimously to keep the personal information of gun permit applicants confidential and exempt from Freedom of Information Act requests. Senate Bill 49, introduced by state Senator Thomas Casperson, passed in a 4 to 0 vote and is now eligible for a vote in the full Senate.
The Kansas Senate Committee on Federal and State Affairs will hold a hearing on Senate Bill 21 this Wednesday, January 23 at 10:30 a.m. In addition to a number of technical changes, SB 21 would reform the state’s Right-to-Carry laws and strengthen the rights of Kansas’ law-abiding gun owners in several ways.
