Today, attempts will be made to amend critical firearms preemption language into House Bill 1243on the Pennsylvania House floor.  The amendment, filed by state Representative Mark Keller (R-86), would strengthen and provide consistency in Pennsylvania’s firearm and ammunition laws throughout the state.  To date, nearly fifty municipalities have enacted illegal local gun control ordinances including Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Lancaster, Reading and the state capital of Harrisburg.  Enough is enough.

In January 2010, the U.S. Supreme Court handed down a key decision in the case of Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission.  The decision removed unconstitutional restrictions on the ability to speak freely at election time of grassroots groups like NRA and others. But now, some are trying to reverse the decision–and while they recognize that they must amend the Constitution to do so, their amendment would gut the First Amendment rights of organized political groups as we know them.

As previously reported last month, former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and his anti-gun followers made another attempt at hindering your right to keep and bear arms in Missouri.  In mid-June, a lawsuit was filed against Senate Joint Resolution 36 (Constitutional Amendment 5 on the August 5 primary election ballot) – with the plaintiff being St. Louis Police Chief Samuel Dotson III and Rebecca Morgan, a member of the Missouri chapter of a Bloomberg-funded anti-gun group.  This lawsuit sought to challenge the ballot language and had the express intention of outright killing this ballot measure.

Yesterday, 63 amendments were filed to Senate Bill 2265 that would affect your rights as a gun owner and sportsman in the Commonwealth.  It is critical that you contact your state Senator early tomorrow morning and ask him or her to oppose amendments which attack your rights, and support those that make pro-gun improvements to S.2265.
